CarScout Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2026
✓ CarScout stores all data locally on your device. Nothing is ever sent to external servers.
What data CarScout collects
When you browse Facebook Marketplace, CarScout passively reads and stores the following information from vehicle listings you view:
- Listing title, price, mileage, and year
- Listing URL and ID
- Thumbnail photo URL (a link to Facebook's servers, not downloaded)
- Location (city/region as shown on the listing)
- The date you viewed the listing
When you run a search, CarScout opens background browser tabs on Facebook Marketplace to collect additional listings. The same data types above are collected from those tabs.
Where data is stored
All collected data is stored exclusively in your browser's local IndexedDB storage. This means:
- Data never leaves your device
- CarScout has no servers, no accounts, no cloud storage
- No third party ever receives your data
- Uninstalling CarScout removes all stored data
Data retention
Collected listings are automatically deleted after 7 days. You can manually clear all data at any time by clicking "Clear data" in the CarScout popup.
What CarScout does NOT do
- Does not collect your Facebook account information, login credentials, or personal profile data
- Does not track your browsing history outside of Facebook Marketplace vehicle listings
- Does not display ads or receive payment to promote any listings
- Does not share, sell, or transmit any data to any party
- Does not require an account or any personal information to use
